TODAY

I am now at the laboratory. I am currently reading some articles about peripheral nerve regeneration. This is an review article concerning about factors influencing the effect of remyelinating. This article suggested that several factors such as ECM(Extracellular Matrix) proteins, neurotrophic factors/receptors , intracellular regulators and hormones may play significant role in nerve remyelinating after nerve injury. This article also demonstrated several experimental facts about these effects. But so many pullzles still remain. We have to conduct research to solve these problems!

Organic Chemistry Grade~

Though I didn't get the highest score , I believe that I gained a lot in this course !! Such things cannot be evaluated by scores~~~

I am very satisfied with this course~~ I hope that the courses I will take in the future are as good as this organic chemistry course!!!

The Organic Chemistry final was over~

Though I didn't get 100 , I still think that organic chemistry is pretty fascinating~~ What we learned is much more important than the scores !!
Maybe I will study more advanced organic chemistry in the summer vacation ~~

Night Of Organic Chemistry

I just studied the Hammett equation . Definitely it was an interesting topic.
I love organic chemistry but not the exams!!!
I want to sleep now~~~

Thank you~

The interesting organic chemistry class ended today . We will have the final next Monday. But let us not talk about the coming exam. I am very grateful to professor Luh for his instruction! He taught very well~ He let us realize the most important concepts in organic chemistry. Also , he often shared some stories with us that concerned about how to do research. To sum up , professor Luh helped me not only academically but also mentally . Though I don't major in chemistry and except biochemistry , I won't have courses about chemistry anymore , I will enhance my knowledge in chemistry continuously. I think that good chemical backgrounds are very crucial in next generation medical research . And I will keep in mind what professor Luh said!!

My own way~

I messed up my calculus exam again. But it was in my expectations. But how to say? Before the exam , I definitely realized that I had't prepared very well compared with previous experiences.I tried very hard to retrieve the situation, but It didn't work. The reason was that someone impeded me from carrying these plans. Usually, I can evaluate what I can achieve in a coming exam just by reviewing what I have worked already. For this time, I really knew that I needed more preparations . But I cannot put them into practices. The result is that I got a bad grade on the exam. I just want to do in my own way. I don't want anyone to interfere me , especially someone always talking in a high-sounding tone. I truly know what I want , and I will gain them no matter what!!!

TODAY

Well, today is pretty interesting. In the organic chemistry class,I learned some concepts about NMR spectroscopy. The mathematical and physical formula are not so easy to understand, so I want to review this subject some other day, maybe in the summer. In the afternoon, I went to the laboratory in medical college. I discussed my plan with Professor Hsieh. I learned a lot. For example, he told me that we should not always follow the trend. Instead, we should be unique and innovative. Whether a researcher can win Nobel Prize doesn't depend on how much money he spend and doesn't depend on how complicated the experiment is. The major concern is INNOVATION. In order to contribute to the whole scientific world, we must apply completely novel approaches which haven't been used by other people. Even a simple experiment can change the whole world to a great scale!! The most important thing is just HOW WE DEAL WITH A PROBLEM !!!

SUMMER RESEARCH TRAINING PLAN (a sketch)

The following is a rough description about what I plan to do in the laboratory this summer. It only contains the topic of neuroscience and not include the contents of interdisciplinary studies , which are also important parts supporting long-term and novel scientific research.
_______________________________
This summer course will be made of two major parts. These parts will be integrated so that I can learn as many as possible in limited time. First of all, I will learn the techniques which are important in neuroscience research. At the same time, I will read more articles related to the fields that I am interested in. Through this process, I may find a topic with biological significance and investigate it vigorously and conscientiously.

The main techniques I will learn include Immunohistochemistry, quantitation of neurons/nerve fibers, morphometric studies, and animal surgical procedures. I will practice above-mentioned techniques and make myself be proficient at them. If there is a chance, I hope that I can also learn some techniques in cell biology. Maybe it is a good idea to combine experimental data both from molecular level and morphological level.

The major field that I am interested in is about the nerve degeneration, regeneration and nociception. Only limited time is available, so I will focus on the study in nerve degeneration and nociception. I will choose one factor that can cause nerve degeneration and evaluate its effects. According to previous studies, we can examine both temporal and spatial changes in skin innervation of the mouse footpad. For example, we can divide mouse into several groups. Then we sacrifice them in different time after the operation. In each group, we can use such as immunohistochemical techniques, fluorescence and electron microscopy to measure the changes in the areas we are concerned. If time is enough, maybe in the next semester, I want to investigate the nerve regeneration. We can continue the experiment which we have started, observing what will happen after the operation, maybe in a period of several months. Just like what previously described, we can use techniques such as immunohistochemistry to study the extent of regeneration. For example, we can study the reinnervation of skin. Also, we can measure the density and diameter of regenerating nerve and compare them with the control group. Electrophysiology is also fascinating, but it is much more complicated for me, so I think I need more time to study them.

Paralleling to the study of nerve degeneration, it is desirable to investigate the pain reaction. We can test the behavior of mouse in several ways. For example, we can measure how long a mouse will react to a stimulus which may be thermal, cold or mechanical.

For a beginner, it is urgent to absorb more knowledge on this field. This plan will be modified when I learn more things or when I come up some idea in the future.

Many classmates will go to laboratories this summer ~

I heard that many classmates participate in the project of genomic and proteomic research . It is definitely an interesting project . There are many pioneering techniques which may be helpful in solving biological puzzles . There is no denying that basic research is a hard work , but it is also fascinating . Especially when we develop something that can help people or revolutionize the whole world .

Time is going so fast~

I feel that time is going so fast this semester . So far I haven't achieved or finished any significant thing !! And I think it is a serious problem for me . I am not going to waste my life anymore!! I must work still harder and not care about things that are not crucial to me . I have to concentrate on truly meaningful things and make them more meaningful ! I surely realize what I want and I will get them at all costs !!!

CRAZY SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!

What a crazy day!! I got up at "2:00 AM" and take the bus to Ilan on 3:10 AM . I saw many interesting things that I had not experienced . For example , I realized how a fish can be caught and then be bought by a consumer . We also interviewed some fishermen , knowing that they actually face many problems . I got back to the library at 14:00 . I am too tired to write anything now......

My mood after exams....

Maybe you think that people should be happy after so many exams . Such idea may be applied to many people but not me . After many exams , such as calculus , general physics and organic chemistry , I am a frustrated student now . In general , a student who prepared the exams well should get good grades on the exams . But in my recent cases , I didn't perform well in subjects that I am good at , or at least , well-prepared . I am wondering the reasons that cause these results . I have several ideas now . For example , maybe I care some subjects too much . Well , it may have some effects , but I don't think it is the main cause . Because I got good grades on these subjects in my high school life . I paid much more attention to such things before . I need to find the solutions that can help me learn more and have good grades.Even though I don't regard the exams too much , I still think that tests can help me evaluate my learning ability . If I get bad grades on tests , I should know the reasons .
I am too tired to think today , but I will solve this problem . You guys should not be suspicious about my determination !!

CONCERTED REACTIONS

Recently I studied the organic chemistry very intensively . I think knowledge itself is very interesting , but the exams are not . By the way , I read the materials about concerted reactions, which impressed me very much . I had not known that people can predict what a reaction will go on before I studied what Woodward and Hoffmann contributed to our world . Maybe biology can also go in this way . Such work needs investigators with great intelligence and dedication , and I WILL participate in this research area no matter what obstacles I will face !! I WILL OVERCOME ALL OF THE BARRIERS !

Keep going !

I promise that you will achieve your goal . What you should do now is keep going and never stop !!!

I hope that I can realize my dream too ....

EXCESS EXAMS

The PHYSICS and ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 2nd-midterm is coming .... I hope I have 72 hours a day....I still have so many problems to solve ....... I love these subjects , but I don't like exams....

Oh....don't forget the calculus......MULTIPLE INTEGRALS and VECTOR FIELDS....

Still very busy ....

Even all the midterm exams were over , I still have a lot of things to do , for example , my general physics assignments which are about RLC circuit . And I should preview and review my calculus and organic chemistry materials. I don't want to mess them up again !!!!!!

I WANT TO DO MY RESEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

My calculus midterm exam ....

I messed up on my CALCULUS MIDTERM EXAM ..........I should have prepared more.....But in fact , I studied calculus a lot .......I cannot understand why I often do so poorly on a formal test but very well on daily exercises.........

ORG.PHILE

After the organic chemistry midterm , I still have a lot of things to do ... The most important thing is the CALCULUS midterm on Sunday.....DO NOT RELAX TOO EASILY .There is no time for a scientist to relax !!

ps:There is a very excellent organic chemistry textbook ( between introductory and advanced organic chemistry )

Never give up!!

Long time no blog .... I have been busy several months , I am still busy now , but I want to write something...( in fact , I am too tired to study now.....XD)...I am wondering that "whether I am a college student"...I think we waste too much time on boring things ,or more precisely , the things that we are not interested in !! My ideal undergraduate life is that we can weave our own dream and chase our future. It is our doom ,we can escape from them only because we were born here ... But I won't give up , I will never forget my dream and I will achieve my goals definitely!!!!

My General Chemistry Final......

I saw the answers to the chemistry final exam .....It is a very bad experience:the professor always teaches what he likes but not what the students truly NEED! And his exams were not related to what he had taught in the class .... Even if I will have bad grades in this course , I would not change my enthusiasm for chemistry !!

FInally ....all final exams are over .....

It is a good time to write something....... Because all the boring exams are over , expecially the botany lab test...... The test is very hard , I cannot understand some questions , so I think I would not get good grades on this subject ...But it's not important , I may not have to use these knowledge in my future career . What I want to ask is that "WHY SHOULD MEDICAL STUDENTS TAKE BOTANY COURSES?????"

Hard Work Has Paid Off

I went to see my calculus test sheet early in this day , and I got a good grade .But I don't think it is due to my intelligence , in fact , I am stupid in some aspects , rather , it is because of hard work , (I did so many calculus problems during this semester , especially recent days.). But I also lost something , that is , I paid little attention to my general chemistry course , even though the scores have not been announced yet ,I don't think I can have good grades on this subject . Maybe I need to manage my time more efficiently next semester...

The final exam of GENERAL BIOLOGY is over....

Though I still have one exam(General Botany Lab) to take , I still want to relax. I am too tired in preparing the calculus , general biology , general chemistry and so many general courses final exams .......I don't think these exams will effictively equip NTU students with true knowledge , I think they merely waste our time......we read so many materials , but in reality , we don't absorb new things !! We are just repeating and repeating the same things .WE NEED MORE TIME TO STUDY INDEPENDENTLY !!!!
